ARM PUMP

We all suffer/suffered from arm pump at one point or another. Anyone who denies they've not experienced arm pump is doing one of two things....1) lying 2) not riding hard enough.

These things need to be implemented into your riding in order to help your arm pump, or prevent it...

CARDIO

If you don't bother training during the week then guess what, you'll fatigue quickly during your weekend riding. Your body cannot sustain a fast pace like motocross if it's not used to any other form of cardio. And when you don't train any other time than the weekends, YOUR technique is going to be what suffers in your riding, therefore causing arm pump because you aren't strong enough to maintain good posture throughout the session.

LEG WORK

I cannot stress this ENOUGH. You should be gripping the bike with your legs. Your arms/hands & wrists are a guide to keep the bike in line to where you want to go. If you find yourself gripping onto the handlebars for dear life....then you really need to take a look at your lower body strength.

BALANCE

Guys, it comes hand in hand with strength. If you can't balance very well on the bike, then...you guessed it, your technique is going to come crashing down . You legs need to be strong YES, but your legs along with the rest of your body need good strength and excellent balance. The better balance you have throughout, the looser and better your grip will be, ultimately resulting in LESS ARM PUMP.

WARM UP BEFORE RIDING

I've said it before and i'll say it again, warming up is absolutely KEY to a good session riding. If you aren't warmed up properly, your bloods not flowing. Therefore if you go straight into a hard 30 min session of riding, your arms will lock up extremely quickly, as your body is still trying to catch up with the level of exercise you're performing.

RIDE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN

The more bike time you have, the better. Your forearms will naturally become more used to the feeling of riding and everything that comes with it. So ride as much as you can. Like most of us, we all work full time and the weekends are our only opportunity to ride, but don't give up just because of that. Complete other exercise during the week. Getting your body in the right condition to ride, is going to help more than just expecting to be able to give your all at your local track on Sunday.

STRETCH

STRETCH!!! Stretch everywhere, including your forearms. If you have a tight bicep, then that tight bicep is going to cause the rest of the muscles in your arm to over compensate in order to succeed in the movement needed.

RELAX

CHILLLLLL OUUUTTTTT. You must be totally relaxed and focussed when riding. If there's anything bothering you in the back of your mind, your performance has already decreased before you've even stepped foot onto the track.

Follow these tips and watch your arm pump improve!
